Fabric Shades

Austrian Shade

Fabric shades are a great way to finish a window treatment. There are many different styles to choose from and many different ways to use them. Below you will find descriptions and images of the more popular styles.

Balloon Shades

These shades are usually used as a decorative accent that is put in place and seldom moved up or down. Balloon shades are generally made by gathering fabric into sections and then pulling the shade up on itself to give a “ballooned” look. These shades can be made flat (”tailored”) or Gathered. There are also many other variations but generally they are made to be stationary and act as a decorative treatment.

Roman Shades

This type of shade will move up and down easily because of the way it is constructed. There are many types of Roman shades but the basic styles are flat, soft folded, hard folded, and relaxed. The shades are made using fabric and lining with a cord system that will allow the shade to go up and down easily. These types of shades can be made to let light through (translucent) or be room darkening. They are great for showcasing a fabric design and work well at insulating from the cold and keeping out the summer sun.

Laminated Shades

This type of shade is very effective not only as a decorative accent but also as a room darkener. Fabric is actually laminated to a shade material (usually a heavy gauge vinyl) and them mounted on a shade roller and works just like a regular roller shade. Instead of the spring roller, we use a continuous cord loop with clutch roller. Eliminating the spring and making the shade easy to operate will ensure a maintenance free product for years to come.
