Construction: A cornice is comprised of three main parts, the face, the return and the dustcap. All parts of the cornice can be made to fit your home perfectly.

  1. The Face: The face starts as a flat cut peice of plywood onto which your pattern or design is applied and cut. Once your pattern or design has been cut the face is attached to the return and the dustcap to creat a solid valance. Once secured the cornice is then padded and sent to the upholstery division to be finished to your specifications.
  2. The Return: The returns determine the projection from the wall to the face of the cornice. The return size is important to allow proper overlap and spacing of new or existing window treatments.
  3. The Dustcap: The dustcap serves many different puposes including the obvious….keeping dust out of the window. Helping not only to support the structure itself the dustcap eliminates the light that would otherwise shine up from above the window.

Helpful Hints:

  1. Choosing a non directional pattern or a fabric that can be “railroaded” will avoid the need for vertical seams.
  2. Make sure the repeat of your pattern allows for the main image or design to be fully displayed of the cornice face.
  3. Pick the right return for your application. Be sure that the inside dimesion of your cornice allows for the free movement of window treatments and thier corded controls.
