Quilting

Sometimes called “Trapunto”, quilting can add a whole new dimension to your fabric. Many styles are available such as channel, squares, and diamonds, each design having numerous size variations. The ultimate achievement in quilting is of course “outline” quilting where the actual pattern or design of the fabric is outlined. This is usually done by machine but “hand guided” by a person with years of experience.

Fill

Whenever a cover for a bed is made it usually involves some type of fill, which is what is between the actual fabric and the lining. This not only gives the cover body but can also add heft to the feel of it. The filler can range from thick to thin. This is referred to in ounces. A bed cover with a 2 oz fill will be light and easy to maneuver. A cover with a 9 oz fill will be thick and very heavy. Everyone’s preference is different which is why you will have a choice when we custom make your bed cover.

Dust Ruffle

This is a basically a fabric cover for the box spring of a bed. It can be made on the flat, plated, or gathered and is usually un-quilted but lined to help keep it clean. It will go from the top of the box spring to the floor and helps with dust, hence the nickname “duster”. It acts as a finish when used in conjunction with a Duvet or Coverlet.

Duvet Cover

Usually a cover made from 2 pieces of fabric and stitched together to form a giant pocket for a puff or quilt. One end is left open so the insert can be easily removed. The end can be kept closed with buttons, Velcro, or a zipper and is usually at the foot of the bed. The top can be a fabric to match the décor of the room and the bottom can be made from a sheet or a contrasting fabric.

Coverlet

This type of bedding is made to cover the bed and has a partial drop on each side and foot of the bed. It is made to cover the mattress but not go all the way to the floor, leaving the box spring exposed, which is usually covered by a duster of some sort.

Bedspread

This type of bedding covers the entire bed, top, sides and footer. It is meant to be used without a duster and can give the bed a very finished look. Bedspreads are usually made with a “rollover” which is an extra piece of fabric that is used to fold back and then rolled over cover the bed pillows.
